Lake Ormož:

• Common Pochard (Aythya ferina) – 3 ind.
• Yellow-legged Gull (Larus michahelis) – 224 ind.

Lake Ptuj:

• Red-necked Grebe (Podiceps grisegena) – 1 ind.
• Black Kite (Milvus migrans) – 1 ind.
• Whiskered Tern (Chlidonias hybrida) – 10 ind.

They finally arrived! One of the first milestones in establishing of Nature Reserve Ormoške lagune was purchase and release of Water Buffaloes in the area of basins. Four cows and one bull were brought from Nationalpark Neusiedler See in Austria. Animals are feeling great in their newly fanced grazing grounds and have a big apetite. We hope that fear of colonizaton of »Hippopotamus« by the local people is finally gone and that Water Buffaloes from Austria seem little less »exotic« than Llamas that are breed in the nearby village of Frankovci.

A group of Swedish environmentalists were on a working visit at DOPPS between 19th and 21st of May. Jenny Sander, Oscar Säwström & Gunnar Lagerkvist are working on environmental management of Common Tern colonies and renaturation of wet meadows. They are currently running one bigger LIFE project – LIFE 12 NAT/SE/000132 LIFE+ Vänern. We devoted first day of their visit in Slovenia to our work at Nature reserve Iški morost and the second day was focused at monitoring and population management of Common Tern in northeast Slovenia. We had a rich discussion and getting to know all the differences and similarities between our work, system, nature conservation, forestry, economics etc. did not dissapoint. Those two days were very rich for all of us and on top of all the things we also found and confirmed first nesting of Red-crested Pochard in Slovenia at Lake Ptuj during our field trip.

• Gadwall (Anas strepera) – 5 ind.
• Goldeneye (Bucephala clangula) – 2 ind.
• Yellow-legged Gull (Larus michahelis) – 194 ind.
• Caspian Gull (Larus cachinnans) – 1 ind.

Lake Ptuj:

• Red-necked Grebe (Podiceps grisegena) – 1 ind.
• Pygmy Cormorant (Phalacrocorax pygmeus) – 2 ind.
• Little Egret (Egretta garzetta) – 12 ind.
• Greater White-fronted Goose (Anser albifrons) – 1 ind.
• Shoveler (Anas clypeata) – 6 ind.
• Black Tern (Chlidonias niger) – 47 ind.
