Lake Ormož:

• Goldeneye (Bucephala clangula) – 2 ind.
• Spotted Redshank (Tringa erythropus) – 1 ind.
• Common Greenshank (Tringa nebularia) – 8 ind.
• Arctic Skua (Stercorarius parasiticus) – 1 ind.
• Mediterranean Gull (Larus melanocephalus) – 3 ind.
• Lesser Black-backed Gull (Larus fuscus) – 1 ind.

Lake Ptuj:

• Black-necked Grebe (Podiceps nigricollis) – 1 ind.
• Pygmy Cormorant (Phalacrocorax pygmeus) – 3 ind.
• Garganey (Anas querquedula) – 1 ind.
• Ruff (Philomachus pugnax) – 2 ind.
• Redshank (Tringa totanus) – 6 ind.
• European Curlew (Numenius arquata) – 1 ind.
• Little Gull (Larus minutus) – 3 ind.

Similary as we managed the educational path friendly for visualy impaired visitors in Nature Reserve Škocjanski Zatok, will we take into account the needs of groups with special needs when arranging the educational paths in Nature Reserve Ormoške lagune as part of project LIVEDRAVA. We got in touch with the Society of the Blind and Visualy Impaired Ptuj and they were immediately willing to cooperate. Two volunteers and students of Ecology with Nature Conservation at FNM , Vesna Slapnik and Tina Koželj Nyambe greatly helped along the way and were involved in the work. On 10th of June 2014 together with representatives from society we did field trip to the Ormož basins where we learned about requirements and modern approaches of arranging educational paths for visualy impaired visitors. We will involve the society in all phases of arranging educational paths and boards, from preparation till implementation. We look forward to further joint work in close cooperation.

Already next year the Common Terns will have the chance to breed on two new, 1.000m² big islands on Lake Ptuj. At this moment both islands are in making, investor is Dravske elektrarne Maribor and the islands will be made following our recomendations. We hope this will resolve the spatial problem of continental population of Common Tern and we also hope it will provide the breeding ground for Little Tern, extinct breeder on river Drava. The creation of those two islands is important contribution to the LIVEDRAVA project.

On Lake Ptuj two new islands were made for common terns. Each of them mesaures 1000 square meters, they are covered by pebbles and shallow by one side, which is important for terns during nesting. The investor (DEM), constructor (FIRA), projectant (VGB Maribor), representative of fishermen’s family and DOPPS conducted a review of the works on 3 September 2014 and decided the islands are made within the scope of the plans and they are appropriate nesting place for terns. We cannot wait for the next nesting seasons and the arrival of terns!

Next big milestone for the establishment of nature reserve is the begining of renaturation works in the basins. The work begun in June 2014 and is carried out by Cestno podjetje Ptuj, d.d., which was chosen through public procurement. Works include the new water outflow from Lake Ormož, new pipline for the basins and remake of an old basins water outflow, together with the creation of new breeding island for Common Tern and all other renaturation ground works necessary for the creation of proper habitats for the birds. Works will be done in two months.
