Environmental experiment of endangered beetle Cucujus cinnaberinus habitat restoration is in progress

In December 2013 we began with logging of Hybrid Poplar trees as a part of the action C.3 Habitat management in the softwood forest stands in Ormož Basins Nature Reserve. Action is performed on two test sites, the third will serve as a control site in the course of the experiment. The experiment is based on the assumption, that increase in dead wood will result in the population increase of the endangered beatle Cucujus cinnaberinus. Dead wood is of critical importance for this species as it lives under the bark of fallen trees. For the experiment we will cut down 81 trees in the northern part of the reserve and place them at test sites.
